Why does your optimization score keep dropping? Google won't explicitly reveal the underlying logic behind it
Google hasn't disclosed the calculation formula, but there are only 6 key factors behind optimization scores:
Bidding strategy: Smart bidding is easier to score higher than manual bidding.
Keyword settings: Adding broad match and negative keywords may be judged as "optimization actions."
Asset coverage rate: The more aligned your images, sitelinks, and callout extensions are, the higher the score.
Account fixes: Violative assets and invalid keywords get an immediate boost after correction.
Conversion tracking: Enhanced conversions and GA4 are major scoring factors.
Using new features: Google rewards usage of whatever they promote - just using PMax or automation tools earns points.
Critical point: Optimization scores change in real-time! Whenever Google rolls out new features, not using them prompts "room for improvement" warnings and score drops.
It's not your performance declining - they just want you adopting their new products. Next episode will cover the most crucial: how to properly use optimization scores? What pitfalls must be avoided?
