Internet penetration continues to increase

In the first half of 2022, my country's Internet infrastructure construction continued to accelerate, digital aging-friendly and information accessibility services continued to improve, driving the steady growth of my country's Internet users. As of June 2022, the number of Internet users in my country was 1.051 billion, with an increase of 19.19 million Internet users compared to December 2021, and the Internet penetration rate reached 74.4%, an increase of 1.4 percentage points from December 2021.

According to data released by CNNIC, as of December 2021, the proportion of Chinese netizens using mobile phones to access the Internet reached 99.7%; the proportions using desktop computers, laptops, TVs, and tablets to access the Internet were 35.0%, 33.0%, 28.1%, and 27.4%, respectively.

As of June 2022, 99.6% of Chinese netizens access the Internet via mobile phones; the proportions of those using desktop computers, laptops, televisions, and tablets to access the Internet were 33.3%, 32.6%, 26.7%, and 27.6%, respectively.

Internet users spend more time online


As of June 2022, the average weekly Internet usage time of Chinese netizens was 29.5 hours, an increase of 1.0 hour from December 2021.

The number of fixed broadband Internet access users continues to grow


As of the end of June 2022, the total number of fixed Internet broadband access users of the three basic telecommunications companies reached 563 million, a net increase of 27.05 million households from the end of 2021. Among them, the number of fixed Internet broadband access users with access speeds of 100Mbps and above reached 527 million, accounting for 93.7% of the total number of users, an increase of 0.6 percentage points from the end of 2021; the number of fixed Internet broadband access users with access speeds of 1000Mbps and above reached 61.11 million, a net increase of 26.56 million households from the end of 2021, accounting for 10.9% of the total number of users.

The scale of cellular IoT users continues to expand


According to data from the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology, as of December 2021, the three basic telecommunications companies have developed 1.399 billion cellular IoT terminal users, with a net increase of 264 million throughout the year, of which terminal users used in smart public utilities, smart manufacturing, and smart transportation accounted for 22.4%, 18.1%, and 15.6%, respectively. As of June 2022, the three basic telecommunications companies have developed 1.64 billion cellular IoT terminal users, a net increase of 240 million from the end of 2021.
